FM Fuad Hussein Discusses Strengthening Relations and Joint Cooperation with Russian Counterpart

H.E. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Fuad Hussein, met on Friday, 25 September 2026, with H.E. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Mr Sergey Lavrov, in New York, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The two sides discussed bilateral relations and ways to develop them, particularly in the trade and economic fields, and agreed to hold a meeting of the Iraqi-Russian Joint Committee next December.

The meeting also addressed the activities of Russian companies operating in Iraq, particularly in the oil and energy sectors, and ways to address the challenges they face.

In the cultural field, the two sides discussed enhancing cooperation through the relevant Iraqi committees and coordination with specialists at the Ministry of Culture, as well as developing cooperation between museums in the two countries, stressing the importance of expanding scientific cooperation between Iraqi and Russian universities.
