FM Discusses Strengthening Bilateral Relations and Coordination in International Forums with Maldivian Counterpart

H.E. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Fuad Hussein, met on Friday, 25 September 2026, with H.E. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, Ms. Iruthisham Adam, in New York, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to advance bilateral relations and strengthen political consultation and coordination between the two countries. They also discussed expanding prospects for cooperation in the tourism and cultural fields, as well as the possibility of concluding a tourism cooperation agreement between Iraq and the Maldives.

Ms. Iruthisham Adam confirmed her participation in the meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states, scheduled to be held in Baghdad next October, expressing her anticipation of participating in the meeting.

In the context of multilateral cooperation, the two sides commended the level of existing coordination regarding mutual support for candidacies in international organisations and exchanged views on supporting Iraq’s candidacies for a number of international positions and memberships.
