FM Discusses Bilateral Relations and Regional Developments with Dutch Counterpart

H.E. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Fuad Hussein, met with H.E. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Mr Tom Berendsen, on Thursday, 24 September 2026, in New York, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Mr Fuad Hussein reviewed developments in Iraq’s economic situation and the challenges facing the country in light of developments related to the Strait of Hormuz. The two sides also discussed the ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States and exchanged views on the latest developments and the situation in the region.

The Minister expressed his appreciation to the Kingdom of the Netherlands for the support it has provided to Iraq as part of the Global Coalition against Terrorism, particularly in confronting the terrorist organisation Daesh, noting that the international coalition’s mission in Iraq is nearing its conclusion at the end of this month, following twelve years of cooperation.

The two sides also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and develop joint cooperation in the political, economic and security fields, in a manner that serves the mutual interests of the two countries.
