FM Meets Moroccan Counterpart in New York to Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Relations and Economic Cooperation

H.E. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Fuad Hussein, met with H.E. the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad of the Kingdom of Morocco, Mr Nasser Bourita, on Thursday, 24 September 2026, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral relations between the Republic of Iraq and the Kingdom of Morocco, as well as ways to develop and strengthen joint cooperation. They also reviewed upcoming engagements and meetings between the two countries.

The two sides further discussed prospects for enhancing economic and trade cooperation, including the possibility of exporting Iraqi sulphur to the Kingdom of Morocco, thereby contributing to expanding areas of economic cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting also addressed a number of regional issues of common interest. The two sides agreed to maintain communication and coordinate efforts and positions in a manner that contributes to supporting stability and enhancing security in the region.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Moroccan Minister invited Mr Fuad Hussein to visit the Kingdom of Morocco. The Minister expressed his commitment to accepting the invitation at the earliest opportunity.
