FM Delivers Iraq’s Statement at Annual OIC Coordination Meeting in New York

H.E. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Fuad Hussein, delivered Iraq’s statement on Thursday, 24 September 2026, during the Annual Coordination Meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, in the presence of OIC Secretary-General, Mr Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed.

Mr Fuad Hussein congratulated the Secretary-General on assuming his duties, affirming Iraq’s support for the OIC and its commitment to enhancing its role in consolidating Islamic solidarity and supporting Islamic causes, foremost among them the Palestinian cause and Al-Quds Al-Sharif.

Mr Fuad Hussein noted Iraq’s readiness to host the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC Member States, scheduled to be held in Baghdad on 17 and 18 October 2026, affirming that the logistical and security preparations to receive the participating delegations are in place.

The Minister commended the Organisation’s efforts to enhance cooperation among Member States in the areas of sustainable development and to promote constructive dialogue and joint coordination, reiterating Iraq’s position calling for giving precedence to dialogue and diplomacy in addressing outstanding issues and rejecting military and hostile actions in the Middle East.

Mr Fuad Hussein affirmed Iraq’s rejection and condemnation of the ongoing attacks carried out by the Israeli entity in Syria and Lebanon, stressing the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of States and to abide by the rules of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.
