FM Discusses Bilateral Relations and Regional Developments with Iranian Counterpart by Phone

Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, received, on Saturday, 12 September 2026, a phone call from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, H.E. Mr. Abbas Araghchi.

During the call, the two sides discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as the measures related to the closure of a number of border crossings, the reasons behind their closure, and ways to address the matter.

The two sides also discussed the attack that targeted the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the measures taken in this regard, as well as the joint committee established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack.

The call also addressed the meeting scheduled to be held in the Sultanate of Oman with the participation of the eight neighboring countries, namely the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, Iraq, and Iran, to discuss issues related to the Strait of Hormuz. H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein affirmed Iraq’s support for the meeting and its outcomes, noting that an Iraqi delegation would participate in its proceedings.

The two sides also discussed the latest developments in Yemen and affirmed the importance of addressing all outstanding issues and matters through dialogue and negotiations, in a manner that contributes to reducing tensions and enhancing security and stability in the region.
