FM and Arab League Secretary-General Inaugurate the Iraqi Building at the League’s Headquarters in Cairo

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, and Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, H.E. Mr. Nabil Fahmy, inaugurated, on Monday, 7 September 2026, the Iraqi Building at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, in the presence of a number of Arab foreign ministers participating in the 166th Ordinary Session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level.

The inauguration of the building marks the culmination of the initiative of the Republic of Iraq and its continued support for the system of joint Arab action. In 2012, during the Arab Summit held in Baghdad, Iraq made a donation for the construction of the new building at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, in a step reflecting its keenness to enhance the role of the Arab League, support its institutions, and enable them to carry out their functions.

In recognition of this Iraqi initiative and contribution, the Council of the League of Arab States officially adopted the name “Iraqi Building” for the facility, reaffirming the prominent position of Iraq and its historic and active role in supporting the progress of joint Arab action.

The building houses the office of the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, in addition to a number of meeting rooms, offices, and administrative facilities that contribute to supporting the work of the General Secretariat and developing its institutional infrastructure.
