FM Meets Yemeni FM on Sidelines of Arab League Council Meeting

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, met, on Monday, 7 September 2026, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs of the Republic of Yemen, H.E. Ms. Afrah Al-Zouba, on the sidelines of the 166th Ordinary Session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, being held in the capital, Cairo.

At the outset of the meeting, H.E. the Minister extended his congratulations to H.E. Ms. Afrah Al-Zouba on assuming the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs of the Republic of Yemen, wishing her success in carrying out her duties.

The meeting discussed bilateral relations between the Republic of Iraq and the Republic of Yemen and ways to enhance joint cooperation between the two brotherly countries in various fields.

H.E. the Yemeni Foreign Minister briefed the Iraqi side on the political and humanitarian situation in Yemen and the developments on the Yemeni scene, as well as the efforts being made to support the de-escalation process and enhance prospects for reaching solutions that contribute to achieving security and stability in the country.

For his part, Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, expressed his wishes for the brotherly Yemeni people to achieve security and stability, noting that Yemen’s stability represents an important factor in enhancing the security and stability of the region as a whole.

H.E. the Minister stressed the need to reach peaceful political solutions that contribute to achieving a secure and stable Yemen, reaffirming Iraq’s readiness to support any efforts or initiatives that would promote dialogue and achieve security, stability, and peace in Yemen.

For her part, H.E. the Yemeni Foreign Minister affirmed the great esteem in which Iraq is held by the Yemeni people.

The two sides agreed to maintain communication and continue meetings in a manner that contributes to strengthening bilateral relations and coordinating positions on issues of mutual interest.
