FM Fuad Hussein Receives Saudi Deputy FM on Sidelines of Arab League Council Meeting

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, received, on Monday, 7 September 2026, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, H.E. Mr. Waleed Al-Khuraiji, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo, on the sidelines of the 166th Ordinary Session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral relations between the Republic of Iraq and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and ways to enhance joint cooperation in a manner that serves the mutual interests of the two brotherly peoples.

The two sides also discussed the tensions and challenges facing the region and their repercussions on the security and stability of its countries, as well as their negative impact on economic conditions and the movement of trade and investment, and the additional challenges they pose to efforts aimed at achieving development and regional stability.

H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein highlighted the scale of the major challenges facing the region at the present stage, affirming that the continuation of tensions and escalation does not serve the interests of the peoples of the region and leads to further political, economic, and security repercussions.

H.E. the Foreign Minister stressed the importance of adopting dialogue and diplomacy as a means of addressing crises and differences, and of working jointly to reduce tensions and prevent the conflicts from expanding, in a manner that contributes to enhancing security and stability and achieving the common interests of the peoples of the region.
