FM Discusses Omani-Iranian Talks and Efforts to Reduce Tensions with Omani Counterpart

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, held a phone call on Friday, 28 August 2026, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman, H.E. Mr. Badr Albusaidi, during which they discussed the latest regional developments and the outcomes of the talks held between the Omani and Iranian delegations in the capital, Tehran.

H.E. the Minister listened to a briefing on the outcomes of the Omani-Iranian talks, particularly the understandings reached regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The two sides also discussed the outstanding issues between the United States and Iran and addressed the proposed U.S. sanctions that would restrict economic and financial dealings with Iran, as well as their potential repercussions for the regional situation.

The two sides emphasized the importance of holding emergency meetings of the countries concerned to discuss ways to address the dangerous developments and limit their repercussions. They also stressed the need to continue cooperation and coordination between Baghdad and Muscat, work on proposing joint initiatives in this regard, and invite other countries to participate in them.

The two sides agreed to continue communication and coordination in a manner that contributes to developing joint ideas and plans, supporting efforts aimed at containing tensions, and enhancing stability in the region.
