FM Receives Russian Delegation to Discuss Prospects for Joint Cooperation

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, received on Monday, 24 August 2026, Director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation and former Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, H.E. Mr. Dmitry Shugaev, and Director General of Rosoboronexport, H.E. Mr. Alexander Mikheev, in the presence of Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Iraq H.E. Mr. Elbrus Kutrashev.

H.E. the Minister welcomed the Russian delegation, affirming the importance of bilateral relations between the Republic of Iraq and the Russian Federation and Iraq’s keenness to continue dialogue and joint cooperation in a manner that serves their mutual interests.

The meeting addressed a number of issues of mutual interest and emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation in areas of interest to both countries, in light of current regional and international developments.

H.E. the Minister affirmed that Iraq continues to pursue a balanced policy based on supporting dialogue and peaceful solutions while safeguarding its national interests. H.E. also highlighted the importance of developing cooperation in a manner that enhances the capabilities of Iraqi institutions, particularly in areas that contribute to supporting Iraq’s security and stability.

For their part, the Russian officials affirmed their country’s readiness to continue cooperation and exchange expertise in areas of mutual interest, in a manner that contributes to developing bilateral relations and enhancing coordination between the two countries.

The meeting comes within the framework of continued engagement between Iraq and Russia and efforts to expand prospects for bilateral cooperation in line with mutual interests and regional and international developments.
