FM Discusses Regional Developments and Ways to Strengthen Bilateral Relations with Swiss Counterpart

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, received on Thursday, 20 August 2026, a phone call from the Swiss Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Ignazio Cassis.

The two sides discussed bilateral relations between Iraq and Switzerland and ways to further develop them, in addition to the appointment of new ambassadors of the two countries in Baghdad and Bern.

They also discussed regional developments and the impact of the U.S.–Iranian conflict on regional stability. H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein highlighted the positive role played by Switzerland in bringing the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States closer together.

The two sides emphasized the importance of launching international initiatives that contribute to ending the conflict and returning to the negotiating table, thereby enhancing prospects for reaching peaceful and diplomatic solutions.

At the conclusion of the call, the two sides agreed to continue coordination and consultations between Iraq and Switzerland on international issues of mutual interest.
