FM Fuad Hussein Discusses Regional Developments and Ways to De-escalate Tensions with Saudi Counterpart

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, discussed in a phone call on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, H.H. Prince Faisal bin Farhan, regional developments amid escalating tensions and the risks they pose to the security and stability of the countries of the region.

The two sides emphasized the importance of working to contain the escalation and returning to the path of negotiations and dialogue, in a manner that contributes to addressing differences through peaceful means and prevents the expansion of tensions and their repercussions for regional security and stability.

For his part, H.E. the Minister stressed the importance of continuing coordination and consultations between the two countries, as well as maintaining coordination with concerned countries regarding regional developments. H.E. also expressed his appreciation to H.H. the Saudi Minister for his phone call.
