Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein and Prince Faisal bin Farhan Discuss Iraq–Saudi Relations and Regional Developments

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, met on Wednesday, 5 August 2026, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, H.H. Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, on the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting on Jerusalem, held in Amman, Jordan.

During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the importance of strengthening and advancing the bilateral relations between the Republic of Iraq and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. They also discussed a number of issues of mutual interest, foremost among them the preparations for the upcoming Arab Summit, including proposals under consideration regarding its venue in light of the security developments in the region.

The two ministers also reviewed the arrangements for the forthcoming visit of the Iraqi security delegation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in addition to discussing reciprocal visits at various levels, with a view to enhancing cooperation and coordination between the two countries.

H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein outlined the Iraqi Government’s policy aimed at ensuring that arms remain exclusively in the hands of the state. For his part, the Saudi Foreign Minister reaffirmed the Kingdom’s support for the new Iraqi Government and its efforts to strengthen Iraq’s security and preserve regional peace and stability.

The two sides further discussed the security developments in the region and their implications for oil export routes and the security of energy supplies. They also exchanged views on regional efforts and possible understandings aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz to maritime navigation.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides underscored the importance of continuing coordination and joint action within the framework of the League of Arab States and other regional mechanisms, in a manner that serves their shared interests and promotes security and stability across the region.
