FM Discusses Strengthening Bilateral Relations and Cooperation in the Energy Sector and Joint Projects with Egyptian Counterpart

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, met on Wednesday, 5 August 2026, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates of the Arab Republic of Egypt, H.E. Dr. Badr Abdelatty, in Amman, the capital of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, on the sidelines of their participation in the Arab Ministerial Meeting on Jerusalem.

The meeting focused on ways to enhance bilateral relations between Iraq and Egypt and prospects for expanding cooperation across various fields, as well as emphasizing the importance of continuing the exchange of visits by senior officials and delegations from both countries during the coming period, with a view to broadening areas of mutual cooperation.

The two sides also discussed the joint projects being implemented in Iraq by Egyptian companies, as well as ways to enhance cooperation in the energy sector, particularly in the field of electricity, in a manner that serves the mutual interests of the two countries.

The ministers exchanged views on developments in the region and the current regional challenges, including recent developments related to navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the importance of ensuring the uninterrupted flow of maritime navigation.

The meeting also addressed the project to extend the Iraqi oil pipeline to the Port of Aqaba and onward to the Red Sea, highlighting its importance in supporting economic cooperation and enhancing energy transport and export routes.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides agreed to continue coordination and communication and to intensify the exchange of visits and delegations at the highest levels, in a manner that further enhances Iraq–Egypt relations and advances bilateral cooperation to broader horizons.
