FM Receives Phone Call from Canadian Foreign Minister, Discussing Enhancing Bilateral Relations

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, received on Friday, 31 July 2026, a phone call from Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ms. Anita Anand, during which they discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to further enhance them in a manner that serves their mutual interests.

H.E. the Canadian Foreign Minister reaffirmed her Government’s commitment to advancing relations with Iraq and expanding the horizons of bilateral cooperation across various fields. H.E. also renewed her congratulations to H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein on assuming his duties as Minister of Foreign Affairs, wishing him every success in his new responsibilities.

For his part, H.E. the Minister expressed his appreciation to H.E. the Canadian Foreign Minister for her congratulations and kind sentiments, commending her commitment to enhancing bilateral relations. H.E. also welcomed the appointment of a new Canadian Ambassador to the Republic of Iraq and expressed his hope that the Ambassador would contribute to further enhancing cooperation between the two countries.

H.E. the Canadian Foreign Minister affirmed her Government’s support for the Iraqi Government’s policy of ensuring that arms remain exclusively in the hands of the state, while reaffirming Canada’s commitment to continuing its support for Iraq across various fields.

For his part, H.E. the Minister expressed his appreciation to the Government of Canada for its support to Iraq throughout different stages, praising the high level of cooperation between the two countries.

H.E. the Canadian Foreign Minister also expressed her pleasure at Canada hosting the Iraqi national football team for a match on Canadian soil, noting that the event would contribute to enhancing the bonds of friendship between the two peoples.

At the conclusion of the call, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein extended an official invitation to H.E. the Canadian Foreign Minister to visit Iraq, with a view to further enhancing political dialogue and advancing bilateral relations between the two countries.
