FM Receives U.S. Chargé d’Affaires and Reviews the Outcomes of Recent Official Visits

Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, received in Baghdad on Monday, 27 July 2026, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the United States of America to the Republic of Iraq, Mr. Joshua Harris.

The meeting reviewed the outcomes of the Iraqi delegation’s visit to Washington, D.C., led by H.E. the Prime Minister, and assessed its results, particularly the memoranda of understanding signed between the two sides and ways to follow up on their implementation in a manner that enhances bilateral cooperation across various fields.

The meeting also addressed the outcomes of H.E. the Prime Minister’s visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran, accompanied by the Iraqi delegation.

The two sides discussed the course of Iraq’s relations with the Republic of Türkiye and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as the ongoing preparations for upcoming official visits, with the aim of strengthening regional cooperation and advancing bilateral partnerships.

The two sides also exchanged views on developments in the region, particularly those related to maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, underscoring the importance of avoiding escalation and preserving regional security and stability.

The meeting further discussed the economic implications of regional developments and their potential impact on global oil markets and Iraq’s financial situation.
