Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee Hosts FM to Discuss Regional Developments and Enhance Institutional Cooperation

The Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee hosted Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, to discuss a number of political and diplomatic issues, as well as regional and international developments of mutual interest.

At the outset of the meeting, members of the Committee welcomed H.E. the Minister, who explained that his visit to the Council of Representatives was undertaken at his own initiative with the aim of strengthening institutional communication and coordination, and expanding the prospects for cooperation and dialogue between MOFA and the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee.

H.E. the Minister reviewed the latest developments in the region and their implications for Iraq, as well as the new Iraqi Government’s regional and international priorities. H.E. also outlined the efforts undertaken by MOFA to familiarize the international community with the Government’s priorities and policies, while enhancing Iraq’s international presence and foreign relations amid the rapidly evolving regional and global landscape.

H.E. the Minister also reviewed the objectives and outcomes of the Prime Minister’s recent visit to the United States of America, highlighting the key issues and topics discussed during the visit.

The meeting further addressed the outcomes of H.E. the Minister’s recent international visits and diplomatic engagements, particularly his visits to Syria, Kuwait, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Jordan, in addition to his meetings and consultations with his counterparts, during which a range of bilateral and regional issues were discussed.

The two sides also discussed a number of issues of mutual interest, foremost among them ways to develop and institutionalize mechanisms for cooperation and coordination between the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee and MOFA, in a manner that enhances complementarity between the two institutions, supports Iraqi diplomatic efforts, and advances matters related to the country’s foreign policy.
