FM Receives Copy of Credentials of the Newly Appointed Brazilian Ambassador to Iraq

Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, received the newly appointed Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the Republic of Iraq, H.E. Mr. Alfredo César Martinho Leoni, at the Ministry’s headquarters on Monday, 20 July 2026, where the Ambassador presented a copy of his credentials.

H.E. the Minister welcomed the Brazilian Ambassador and wished him success in his duties. The Ambassador conveyed to H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein the greetings of H.E. the Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting focused on bilateral relations between Iraq and Brazil, reviewing their development since 1961 and the various stages they have undergone, while emphasizing the importance of continuing joint efforts to elevate cooperation to broader levels.

H.E. the Minister praised the role of the Brazilian Embassy in Baghdad in strengthening bilateral relations and maintaining the continuity of its work over the past years, stressing the importance of continuing its efforts to further develop cooperation between the two countries.

The two sides also discussed the importance of exchanging official visits and expanding economic cooperation, particularly in existing sectors, while exploring new opportunities for cooperation between the public and private sectors.

H.E. the Minister commended the high level of mutual understanding and positive diplomatic relations between the two countries, as well as their convergence on a number of issues of mutual interest, reaffirming Iraq’s aspiration to continue coordination and cooperation with Brazil.

At the conclusion of the meeting, H.E. the Minister affirmed that MOFA will provide all necessary support to the newly appointed Brazilian Ambassador to ensure the success of his mission and further enhance the ties between the two friendly countries.
