Press Statement

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq expresses its concern over the continuing tensions and developments affecting maritime security in the region, and the potential repercussions these may have for regional security and stability, as well as for international trade.

The Ministry underscores the importance of adhering to the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, respecting the sovereignty of states and the principles of good-neighborliness, and refraining from any actions that could escalate tensions or undermine the security and safety of maritime navigation.

The Republic of Iraq also reiterates the importance of respecting the sovereignty of states and refraining from any actions that threaten their security and stability, in a manner that contributes to strengthening regional security and fostering mutual confidence among the countries of the region.

While calling for dialogue and diplomatic means to address differences, MOFA reaffirms Iraq’s support for all efforts aimed at de-escalation, preserving the security and stability of the region, and safeguarding the shared interests of its peoples.
