FM Fuad Hussein Meets the Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait and Affirms the Priority of Strengthening Bilateral Relations and Resolving Outstanding Issues Through Dialogue

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, met with the Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait, H.H. Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, on Wednesday, 8 July 2026, during his official visit to the State of Kuwait.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries. H.E. the Minister conveyed the greetings of the Iraqi Government to the Kuwaiti leadership, reaffirming Iraq’s commitment to strengthening joint cooperation and advancing bilateral relations in a manner that serves the interests of both countries and their brotherly peoples.
The discussions also covered regional and international developments, the challenges facing the region, and an exchange of views on the most prominent issues of mutual interest.
H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein outlined the Iraqi Government’s vision and priorities for the next phase, referring to the serious security challenges the region has witnessed and their repercussions for Iraq, including their security and economic impacts, as well as their effect on Iraq’s relations with a number of countries in the region, particularly the Gulf states. H.E. stressed that, in the post-war period, the Iraqi Government considers restoring and strengthening its relations with the Gulf countries and the countries of the region—foremost among them the State of Kuwait—to be an urgent priority.
H.E. the Minister reiterated the Republic of Iraq’s commitment to respecting the sovereignty of the State of Kuwait, emphasizing that international law and the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council constitute the fundamental framework governing relations between the two countries. H.E. underscored the importance of resolving outstanding issues through a spirit of cooperation and dialogue in a manner that preserves the fraternal relationship and promotes stability between the two brotherly nations.
H.E. further stressed that the Iraqi Government believes there is no alternative to dialogue with its brothers in the State of Kuwait and highlighted the need to expedite the resolution of the remaining technical issues in order to enhance mutual confidence and ensure the stability of bilateral relations.
For his part, H.H. the Crown Prince welcomed the Minister’s remarks, commending Iraq’s reliance on international law as the basis for bilateral relations. H.H. also praised Mr. Fuad Hussein’s official visit and expressed confidence that it would open new and positive avenues for cooperation in the interests of the two brotherly peoples.
Both sides emphasized the importance of enhancing security cooperation, increasing the exchange of official visits, and developing mechanisms for joint coordination in a way that safeguards bilateral relations and shields them from factors that could adversely affect them.
The meeting also addressed the security incidents involving a number of Iraqi fishermen in Kuwaiti waters. H.E. the Minister stressed the need to take the necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such unfortunate incidents. In response, H.H. the Crown Prince expressed his deep regret over these incidents and underscored the importance of cooperation and coordination between the competent authorities in both countries to prevent similar incidents in the future.
