FM Meets Members of the Iraqi Community in Portugal

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, met on Thursday, 2 July 2026, with a distinguished group of members of the Iraqi community residing in the Portuguese Republic, as part of the MOFA’s commitment to strengthening communication with Iraqi communities abroad and benefiting from their expertise and capabilities in support of the national development process.

During the meeting, H.E. the Minister reviewed the overall political, economic, and security developments taking place in Iraq, as well as the efforts being made by the Government to consolidate security and stability, advance the development process, and enhance Iraq’s regional and international relations in a manner that serves its supreme national interests.

H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein stressed the vital role played by Iraqi communities abroad as a bridge for civilizational, cultural, and economic communication between Iraq and countries around the world. H.E. emphasized the importance of benefiting from the expertise and competencies of Iraqis living abroad and employing them in a manner that contributes to supporting development, reconstruction, and investment plans in Iraq.

H.E. the Minister also listened to the views and proposals of members of the Iraqi community, who outlined the main challenges they face and presented a number of ideas and initiatives aimed at strengthening communication with Iraqi institutions and enhancing the role of Iraqi communities in supporting development efforts and serving Iraqis both at home and abroad.

H.E. the Minister reaffirmed the MOFA’s commitment to maintaining communication with Iraqi communities around the world and to further developing the services provided to them in a manner that enhances their ties to their homeland and reflects Iraq’s civilizational and bright image at the international level.
