H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein Meets Syrian Foreign Minister; Discussions Focus on Strengthening Bilateral Relations and Expanding Cooperation

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, met on Monday, 22 June 2026, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic, H.E. Mr. Asaad Al-Shaibani, on the sidelines of the Arab Consultative Meeting and the resumed 165th Ordinary Session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, both hosted by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Iraq and Syria and to advance cooperation across various fields in a manner that serves the mutual interests of the two brotherly peoples. They also exchanged views on a number of issues of common concern.

The two ministers further discussed the importance of activating the work of the Iraqi–Syrian Joint Committee, enhancing economic and trade cooperation, and developing coordination on border-related matters in a way that contributes to strengthening security and stability and supports development efforts in both countries.

H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to consolidating its relations with the Syrian Arab Republic and supporting all efforts that promote stability and regional cooperation. He emphasized the importance of continuing joint coordination to address shared challenges and advance mutual interests.

For his part, H.E. Mr. Asaad Al-Shaibani expressed Syria’s readiness to strengthen cooperation with Iraq across all sectors, underscoring the importance of further developing bilateral relations in a manner consistent with the deep historical and fraternal ties that unite the two brotherly countries.
