Minister of Foreign Affairs and His Mauritanian Counterpart Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Relations and Implementing Memoranda of Understanding

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, met on Monday, 22 June 2026, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, H.E. Mr. Mohammed Salem Ould Merzoug, on the sidelines of the Arab Foreign Ministers’ Consultative Meeting and the resumed 165th Ordinary Session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, both hosted by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral relations and ways to strengthen them across various fields, particularly through following up on the implementation of the Memoranda of Understanding signed during the most recent session of the Iraqi–Mauritanian Joint Commission. They emphasized the importance of advancing joint cooperation and promoting mutual interests.

The two ministers also discussed prospects for cooperation and coordination within international organizations and forums and exchanged views on the most significant regional and international developments, as well as issues of common concern.
