FM Receives the Australian Ambassador to Iraq

Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, received the Ambassador of Australia to Iraq, H.E. Mr. Glenn Miles, on Sunday, 21 June 2026, and discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations and expand avenues of mutual cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting included an exchange of views on the most significant regional and international developments. Both sides emphasized the importance of supporting de-escalation efforts and dialogue to address current crises in a manner that contributes to enhancing security and stability in the region. They also discussed the ongoing talks between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran and their implications for regional security and stability.

H.E. the Minister reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to enhancing its relations with friendly countries and advancing cooperation and partnership frameworks in a way that serves shared interests. H.E. stressed the importance of continued consultation and coordination between Baghdad and Canberra, and expressed appreciation for the Australian Government’s support for programs and projects aimed at building the capacities of Iraqi institutions, particularly in the field of border management.

For his part, the Australian Ambassador expressed his country’s appreciation for Iraq’s role in supporting regional security and stability, reaffirming Australia’s desire to broaden areas of bilateral cooperation during the coming period.
