FM discusses with the Italian Ambassador regional developments and enhancing bilateral cooperation

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, received the Ambassador of the Italian Republic to the Republic of Iraq, H.E. Mr. Niccolò Fontana, at the Ministry’s headquarters.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Italian Ambassador conveyed his government’s congratulations to H.E. the Minister on the renewal of confidence in him as Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister for Social Services Affairs. He also handed him a formal invitation to participate in the “Mediterranean Dialogues” conference, scheduled to be held in the city of Naples next November. In response, H.E. the Minister expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the invitation, affirming his welcome to participate in the conference.

The two sides discussed bilateral relations between Iraq and Italy and ways to develop them in political, economic, and cultural fields, in addition to enhancing economic cooperation and encouraging the participation of Italian companies in development and reconstruction projects.

They also discussed the importance of activating joint cooperation mechanisms and resuming meetings of the Iraqi–Italian Joint Committee.

The meeting addressed political and security developments in the region, where H.E. the Minister emphasized the importance of efforts aimed at reducing tensions and promoting regional stability, in a way that contributes to supporting the security of the region and the interests of its peoples.

For his part, the Italian Ambassador affirmed his country’s keenness to enhance the bilateral partnership between the two countries, praising Iraq’s role in consolidating regional security and stability.
