FM receives the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Iraq

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, received on Wednesday, 17

June 2026, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Iraq, H.E. Mr. Lee Jun-il, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Baghdad. At the beginning of the meeting, the Korean Ambassador congratulated the Minister on the renewal of confidence in him as Foreign Minister, wishing him success in performing his duties.

The two sides discussed the latest regional and international developments. H.E. the Minister referred to the recent updates regarding the talks between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, and their positive implications for the security and stability of the region, as well as their role in supporting economic stability and enhancing international trade flows.

The meeting also addressed ways to further develop bilateral relations between the Republic of Iraq and the Republic of Korea, particularly in the economic, trade, and investment fields, in a manner that serves the mutual interests of both countries.

H.E. the Minister emphasized the importance of expediting the convening of the tenth session of the Iraqi–Korean Joint Committee, which would contribute to enhancing economic and development cooperation and following up on ongoing negotiation processes related to agreements and memoranda of understanding.

For his part, the Korean Ambassador affirmed his country’s keenness to enhance relations with Iraq and expand prospects for joint cooperation across various fields.
