The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the conclusion of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, reaffirming its full support for all efforts aimed at promoting dialogue and prioritizing diplomatic solutions in addressing crises and conflicts.

MOFA also extends, on behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Iraq, its congratulations to the governments and peoples of the two friendly countries on this occasion, expressing its hope that this step will contribute to enhancing regional security and stability and open new horizons for understanding and cooperation in a manner that serves the interests of the peoples of the region.

MOFA reiterates that Iraq’s principled and steadfast position has always been, and continues to be, the rejection of war and the adoption of dialogue and peaceful means as the sole path to resolving disputes. In this regard, it closely followed the negotiations and efforts that culminated in the conclusion of this Memorandum of Understanding. The Ministry also extends its congratulations to the governments of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the sisterly State of Qatar for their mediation efforts and support for the negotiation process, which contributed to bringing military operations to an end.

Iraq has suffered greatly from the consequences of the conflicts and wars that have affected the region, reinforcing its firm conviction of the importance of intensifying international and regional efforts to prevent escalation and avoid a slide into new confrontations.

While expressing its hope that this development will lead to a definitive end to the state of war, the Ministry affirms Iraq’s continued commitment to efforts aimed at restoring and enhancing its relations with sisterly and friendly countries affected by the repercussions of the recent crisis.

Today, the region is in need of collective action based on the principles of collective security and mutual cooperation, ensuring sustainable stability and security and fulfilling the aspirations of its peoples for development and prosperity.

In this context, Iraq will continue to play its established role in bringing viewpoints closer among the countries of the region, guided by its balanced foreign policy and its enduring commitment to fostering dialogue and promoting regional understanding.

MOFA also welcomes the announcement regarding the imminent reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to normal maritime navigation, given its critical importance in ensuring the smooth flow of oil and gas to global markets and contributing to the stability of international energy markets.
