Press Statement

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq expresses its strongest condemnation of the approval by the so-called Israeli “Knesset” of a law permitting the execution of Palestinian prisoners in occupation prisons. This constitutes a grave violation of international law, international humanitarian law, and the Geneva Conventions, as well as a dangerous escalation. The Ministry reaffirms its categorical rejection of this arbitrary measure.

MOFA also condemns and denounces the ongoing attacks carried out by occupation forces in southern Lebanon, including ground incursions, which represent a flagrant violation of international law and a direct threat to regional security and stability.

MOFA stresses that the ongoing military operations conducted by occupation forces expose United Nations peacekeeping forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL) to serious risks, amid escalating hostilities in their areas of deployment and the deteriorating field conditions, along with their implications for international personnel.

MOFA reiterates its call on the international community to uphold international law, ensure the protection of civilians and international mission personnel, and work towards de-escalation in a manner that contributes to preserving regional peace and security.
