Fuad Hussein Discusses Negotiation Track and Regional Developments in Phone Call with Abbas Araghchi

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, held a telephone conversation on Sunday, 22 February 2026, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, H.E. Mr. Abbas Araghchi, to discuss the latest developments in the negotiation track between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as related regional developments.

Both sides affirmed the continuation of the negotiation process. Thursday was set as the date for the next round of talks between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran, mediated by the Sultanate of Oman, to be held in Geneva.

The call also addressed the military buildup in the region. Both parties emphasized that the appropriate path to addressing current challenges lies in adopting a peaceful approach and resorting to dialogue and negotiations as a means to de-escalate tensions and promote stability.

The two ministers agreed to maintain communication and coordination in the coming period to ensure continued exchange of views on issues of mutual interest, particularly in light of the sensitive circumstances currently facing the region.
