Foreign Affairs Minister Meets SDF Commander to Discuss Security Developments in Syria on the Sidelines of the Munich Security Conference

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, met on Sunday, 15 February 2026, with the Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mr. Mazloum Abdi, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference. During the meeting, the two sides discussed the latest security developments in Syria. H.E. the Minister affirmed Iraq’s support and endorsement of efforts aimed at reaching an agreement with the Syrian transitional government.

The meeting also addressed the process of transferring ISIS detainees to Iraq and included an exchange of views regarding the nature of the detainee files. Both sides emphasized the importance of maintaining security and stability in the region, preventing any escalation, preserving calm, and exercising restraint. Furthermore, the meeting reviewed the living and administrative conditions in the Syrian Jazira region, reflecting Iraq’s commitment to enhancing security and stability and safeguarding the interests of the region.
