Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein discusses developments in Syria and enhancing bilateral relations in a phone call with his Emirati counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, held a phone call on Monday, 12 January 2026, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, during which they discussed the bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and avenues to enhance them.

During the call, both sides emphasized the importance of advancing economic cooperation between Iraq and the UAE and moving forward with the signing of relevant agreements in a manner that serves the mutual interests of both countries.

The two ministers also addressed regional developments, particularly the situation in Syria and its significance for the security and stability of the region. H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein stressed the need for joint efforts to achieve stability, avoid escalation, and resort to peaceful solutions within the framework of the international system.

During the call, the Minister also reviewed the steps toward forming the Iraqi government and the ongoing political efforts to ensure a smooth formation process and the establishment of an effective government capable of meeting the aspirations of the Iraqi people.
