Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq Chairs the Second Meeting of the High National Committee Formed Pursuant to Diwani Order No. (25502)

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, chaired on Wednesday, 3 December 2025, the second meeting of the High National Committee tasked with examining the decision issued by the U.S. Department of the Treasury on 9 October 2025 regarding the designation of several entities and individuals on its lists. The meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the participation of committee members representing the relevant ministries and governmental bodies.

During the meeting, the Committee examined the measures taken by the relevant authorities and the proposed mechanisms for addressing the issues raised at both the domestic and external levels. It also discussed the assessment of available legal avenues to deal with these developments, and examined practical options to support the ongoing efforts, while emphasizing the continuation of meetings in the coming period and the scheduling of further sessions with the participation of additional relevant authorities to the matter.

H.E. the Minister affirmed that financial and banking reforms constitute an internal necessity before being an external requirement, noting that the considerations related to the current and future policies of the government of Iraq, the overall economic situation, and particularly the financial aspect, require positive engagement with what is raised at the external level in order to safeguard national interests and strengthen the resilience of the Iraqi economy.
