Iraq and Serbia Hold a Round of Political Consultations in Baghdad

Baghdad – July 16, 2025.

 The Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Bilateral Relations Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr Aluloom received the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Mr. Damjan Jović and his accompanying delegation at the Ministry’s headquarters in Baghdad.

A round of political consultations was held, during which the two sides discussed a number of bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual interest. In his remarks, the Undersecretary emphasized that Iraq is steadily moving toward a promising future and playing a pivotal role as a bridge for regional dialogue and as an attractive environment for investment. He also affirmed the Iraqi government’s commitment to a policy of “productive diplomacy” based on economic integration as a gateway to achieving stability and peace in the region.

The Undersecretary commended the historic relations between Iraq and the Republic of Serbia. The two sides also reviewed Iraq’s regional and international stances, with the Undersecretary reiterating Iraq’s unwavering position in calling for de-escalation and the resolution of crises through peaceful means.

The consultations covered a range of regional issues, particularly the situations in Palestine, Syria, Yemen, and Lebanon, in addition to other international matters. Both sides stressed the urgent need for the international community to act to end humanitarian crises, with particular focus on the tragic situation in the Gaza Strip. 

On his part, Mr. Jović expressed his country’s appreciation for the positive developments taking place in Iraq and affirmed Serbia’s desire to enhance its partnership with Baghdad in the economic, technological, and cultural areas.

At the end of the meeting, both sides agreed to continue coordination, activate the outcomes of previous agreements, and strengthen bilateral dialogue in a way that serves the mutual interests of the two friendly countries.
