Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations Meets EU Ambassador to Mark End of his Tenure in Iraq

Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations Mr. Mohammed Hussein Bahr Aluloom received the European Union Ambassador to the Republic of Iraq Mr. Thomas Seiler, in his office at the Ministry’s headquarters on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, to mark the end his diplomatic duties in Iraq.

During the meeting, the Undersecretary  expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by Ambassador Seiler during his tenure in Iraq, and for his notable contributions to strengthening relations between Iraq and the European Union. He emphasized the importance of continuing bilateral cooperation across various fields of mutual interest.

On his part, Ambassador Seiler expressed his deep gratitude for the opportunity to work in Iraq over the past two years, stating that he felt during this time as though he were one of the Iraqi people—whom he described as “a people of unique character.”

As well Ambassador Seiler noted that his numerous visits to various Iraqi cities enabled him to experience the renowned hospitality, the depth of history, and the spirit of coexistence that characterizes Iraqi society.

At the end of the meeting, Undersecretary Bahr Aluloom extended his sincere thanks and appreciation to Ambassador Seiler, wishing him continued success in his future endeavors, and reaffirming Iraq’s commitment to maintaining strong channels of communication and cooperation with the European Union Mission.
