Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations Receives Ambassador of India to Iraq

Baghdad – July 9, 2025. Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Bilateral Relations Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr Aluloom received the Ambassador of the Republic of India to Iraq Mr. Soumen Bagchi, at the Ministry’s headquarters.

The two sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations between Iraq and India across various sectors, particularly in trade, education, health, and energy. They also explored mechanisms to facilitate the issuance of visas for students and businesspeople, as well as expanding avenues for cultural exchange between the two friendly countries.

Ambassador Bahr Aluloom emphasized the importance of the longstanding historical ties between Iraq and India, highlighting the need to advance them through the implementation of joint development projects. He also commended the positive role played by the Indian community in Iraq and its contribution to several key projects.

On his part, Ambassador Bagchi commended the efforts of the Iraqi Foreign Ministry in strengthening bilateral cooperation and reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting Iraq’s path toward stability and development. He also expressed his country’s keenness to open new horizons for cooperation in the coming period.
