Declaration of Istanbul Adopts Iraq’s Proposals at Conclusion of 51st Session of Organization of Islamic Cooperation

The 51st session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) concluded on June 22, 2025, in Istanbul, Turkey. The session, held from June 21 to 22, was attended by delegations from OIC member states. The delegation of the Republic of Iraq was headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein.
The closing session adopted the “Declaration of Istanbul“ which included proposals submitted by Iraq. Among them was a strong condemnation of the Israeli entity’s destabilizing policies in the region, including its recent attacks on Iran, Syria, and Lebanon—actions considered a clear violation of the sovereignty of those countries. This proposal had previously been presented by Iraq during the emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers.
Another Iraqi proposal that was approved involved the establishment of an open-ended joint committee of OIC member states, tasked with promoting dialogue and working to ease regional tensions. This initiative was also part of the outcomes of the recent emergency Arab meeting convened at Iraq’s request.
