Minister Fuad Hussein Meets Turkish Foreign Minister in Istanbul to Discuss Developments of War on Iran and Bilateral Issues Related to Water and Oil Exports

On Sunday, June 22, 2025, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Mr. Hakan Fidan, on the sidelines of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers meeting held in Istanbul.

The two ministers reviewed the latest regional developments in light of the recent escalation resulting from the war on Iran, including Saturday’s attacks on nuclear facilities. They underscored the importance of joint efforts to limit the spread of the conflict and stressed the need to support political and diplomatic initiatives aimed at containing the crisis and preventing further deterioration.

On the bilateral level, Minister Fuad Hussein discussed the issue of water inflows into Iraq, noting a significant decline in water quantities coming from Turkey. Minister Fidan promised to engage with the relevant authorities in his country to follow up on the matter in a way that ensures the interests of both sides.

The two ministers also discussed the issue of Iraqi oil exports through Turkish territory. Minister Hussein emphasized the urgency of accelerating technical and administrative coordination to resume oil flows via the Ceyhan port, given the critical importance of this issue for Iraq’s economy amid ongoing regional challenges. He affirmed Iraq’s readiness to fully cooperate in this regard in order to advance shared interests.
