Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein Meets Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to Discuss Regional Escalation

On Sunday, June 22, 2025, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein met with Iranian Foreign Minister Mr. Abbas Araghchi, on the sidelines of the 51st session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The meeting marked the second between the two ministers during the current crisis, as they discussed the recent regional security developments following U.S. military strikes on key nuclear sites in Iran.
Minister Araghchi provided a detailed review of the consequences of the attacks, stating that Iran isconsidering a number of steps as part of its response, in addition he noted that Iran, with support from Russia, is calling for an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council.
On his part, Minister Fuad Hussein emphasized the importance of activating the open-ended ministerial contact group proposed by Iraq within the OIC framework, with the aim to contain the crisis, and opening channels for dialogue, in a way that contributes to reaching peaceful solutions and preventing further escalation in the region.
