Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein Meets Syrian Foreign Minister in Istanbul and Emphasizes Risks of Regional Escalation

On Saturday, June 21, 2025, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Syrian Arab Republic, Mr. Asaad Al Shibani, on the sidelines of the 51st session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Istanbul.

During the meeting, the Syrian Minister reviewed the latest political and economic developments in Syria. The two sides also discussed bilateral relations and ways to strengthen cooperation in a manner that serves the interests of both nations.

Regional developments were also addressed, particularly the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Islamic Republic of Iran, and its grave repercussions for the security and stability of the region’s countries. Minister Hussein stressed that the continuation of this escalation could lead to widespread chaos with serious consequences for the peoples of the entire region.

The Minister highlighted Iraq’s proposal, presented during the emergency meeting of Arab Foreign Ministers, to form a joint Arab-Islamic committee tasked with engaging all relevant parties to reach a ceasefire agreement and return to negotiations.

Minister Hussein underscored the importance of joint efforts to prevent further escalation and to safeguard regional security and stability.
