On Saturday, June 21, 2025, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein, led the delegation of the Republic of Iraq at the opening session of the 51st Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The session was opened by Minister for External Relations of the Republic of Cameroon Mr. Lejeune Mbella Mbella the chair of the 50th session, as he formally handed over the presidency of the current session to the Republic of Turkey, represented by its Foreign Minister Mr. Hakan Fidan.
In his remarks during the opening session, the Turkish Foreign Minister emphasized that the meeting is being held under exceptional circumstances, particularly due to the ongoing Israeli attacks on Iran. He warned that such aggressions are pushing the region toward instability and chaos, he further asserted that Israel’s true objective is to forcibly displace the Palestinian people and uproot them from their land.
Additionally, the President of the Republic of Turkey Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, addressed the session, highlighting the unprecedented escalation in Israeli aggression over the past two years — from attacks on Gaza and the West Bank to strikes in Lebanon and Syria, and escalated to the current aggression on the Islamic Republic of Iran.
President Erdoğan affirmed that Iran’s actions in self-defense are legitimate, in addition he criticized the international community’s continued neglect of the threat posed by Israel’s nuclear arsenal, indicating that Israel, which remains outside the scope of nuclear control, seeks to deflect attention and avoid accountability by shifting blame onto others.
