Undersecretary of Foreign Ministry Receives Deputy Chief of U.S. Mission

The Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Bilateral Relations Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr Aluloom received Deputy Chief of U.S. Mission to Iraq Ms. Elizabeth Trudeau, on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.
During the meeting, they discussed the grave developments in the region on the background of the Zionist aggression on the Islamic Republic of Iran and the escalation it represents that threatens the security and stability of the region.
The Undersecretary affirmed the Republic of Iraq’s condemnation of this aggression, considering it a blatant violation of international law and the UN Charter. As well the Undersecretary emphasized Iraq’s categorical rejection of the Zionist entity’s violation of Iraq’s sovereignty and the use of its airspace to carry out this attack, and its refusal to conduct any military or logistical operations from its airspace, condemning the launching of military strikes against nuclear sites, as they pose a direct threat to public safety and the environment in the region and constitute a flagrant violation of international law. In addition, Undersecretary Bahr Aluloom indicated that Iraq has submitted an official complaint to the UN Security Council condemning the violation of its airspace, calling on the international community to assume its responsibilities and halt the war immediately.
On her part, the US Deputy Chief of Mission affirmed that the United States had not participated in any military operations, reaffirming her country’s commitment to supporting efforts to maintain Iraq’s security and stability. She noted that Washington is making strenuous efforts to halt military operations and escalation in the region, and to work to push all parties toward calm and diplomatic solutions.
The two sides also discussed recent U.S. measures to reduce the number of non-essential staff at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. The Undersecretary noted that the renewed security alert in Iraq is not consistent with the reality and improved security conditions, and the efforts made by the Iraqi government in this regard. Additionally, they emphasized the importance of continuing diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and prevent the region from sliding into a full-scale conflict.
