Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Holds Phone Call with Iranian Counterpart and Affirms Iraq’s Condemnation of Aggression Against Iran

On 13 June 2025, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein held a phone call with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mr. Abbas Araghchi.
During the call, Minister Hussein expressed Iraq’s strong condemnation of the military aggression targeting the Islamic Republic of Iran, reaffirming Iraq’s solidarity with the Iranian government and people in the face of this dangerous escalation.
The two sides touched on the details of the attack and its implications, as the Iranian Foreign Minister emphasized Iran’s right to respond and defend its sovereignty in proportion to the level of threat posed, Minister Araghchi noted that Israeli aircraft had violated Iraqi airspace.
In this context, Minister Fuad Hussein affirmed that Iraq had submitted an official complaint to the United Nations Security Council regarding this violation, urging the international community to take a firm stance against such repeated breaches, which pose a direct threat to the security and stability of both Iraq and the region.
Minister Hussein also called on the Iranian side to continue pursuing dialogue with the United States, through Omani mediation, in order to reach solutions that would help de-escalate tensions and promote peace and stability in the region.
