Undersecretary for Political Planning Chairs Roundtable Discussion on Regional and International Developments and Implications on Iraqi National Security

As part of the Ministry’ efforts to enhance strategic insights and keep pace with regional and international changes, a roundtable discussion was held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Baghdad. The discussion was chaired by Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Political Planning Ambassador Dr. Hisham Al Alawi. The discussion was attended by Ambassador Shorsh Khalid Saeed, Undersecretary for Legal and Multilateral Affairs, and a number of diplomats from relevant Ministry departments, along with representatives from the relevant security and government agencies.
The meeting discussed the latest political and security developments on the regional and international arenas and their potential implications on Iraqi national security, with attaching special importance on assessing developments on the ground in light of new regional and international understandings.
Participants also discussed opportunities to enhance cooperation and coordination at the regional and international levels and outlined several future scenarios with the aim of presenting proposals and recommendations that would contribute to supporting the Iraqi decision-making process in confronting the ongoing political and security transformations.
This roundtable discussion is part of a series of activities implemented by the Ministry to promote institutional dialogue and formulate effective diplomatic positions that serve Iraq’s best interests in a changing regional and international environment.
