Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations Discusses Iraqi Community Affairs with State Secretary at Ministry of Justice of Sweden

As part of his official visit to the Kingdom of Sweden Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Bilateral Relations Mr. Mohammed Hussein Bahr Aluloom, met with the Swedish State Secretary at the Ministry of Justice Mr. Anders Hall, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Stockholm, on May 26, 2025.

During the meeting, Undersecretary Bahr Aluloom expressed Iraq’s appreciation for Sweden’s humanitarian stance in embracing a large Iraqi community during the difficult times Iraq has experienced in the past, affirming that members of the community today represent a vital bridge of communication between the two peoples and contribute to strengthening bilateral relations.

On his part, Mr. Hall noted that the Iraqi community constitutes approximately 3% of Sweden’s population and plays an active role in the country’s development. He highlighted its extensive involvement in various Swedish institutions and its significant contribution to public life.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries, particularly with regard to facilitating the affairs of the Iraqi community residing in Sweden. They also discussed prospects for cultural and scientific cooperation, and the possibility of reconsidering the level of travel advisories issued by Sweden for Iraq, reflecting the tangible improvement in the security situation and investment opportunities available in the country.

At the end of the meeting, Ambassador Bahr Aluloom extended an official invitation to Mr. Anders Hall to visit Iraq, as part of strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two friendly countries.
