Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Receives FAO Director General

Baghdad, May 25, 2025 — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein received Mr. Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), along with his accompanying delegation, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Baghdad.
The meeting focused on enhancing the ongoing cooperation between Iraq and FAO and reviewing the outcomes of the organization’s programs in Iraq, particularly those related to the use of modern agricultural technologies, in alignment with the goals of the National Agricultural Plan and Iraq’s ambitions in this vital sector.
The two sides also discussed the impact of climate change and reduced water flows on Iraq’s agricultural strategy, emphasizing the importance of benefiting from the outcomes of the 5th Baghdad International Water Conference to support efforts in developing the agricultural sector.
Minister Hussein expressed Iraq’s aspiration to broaden areas of cooperation with FAO in ways that support food security and help address the challenges posed by climate change.
On his part, Mr. Qu Dongyu reaffirmed FAO’s commitment to continue productive collaboration with Iraq in the fields of agriculture and food, and commended the progress Iraq has made in adopting and utilizing modern agricultural technologies.
