Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Receives Italian Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs to Discuss Prospects for Bilateral Cooperation

Baghdad — On Monday, May 19, 2025, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein, received the Italian Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ms. Maria Tripodi, during her visit to Baghdad.

At the start of the meeting, Undersecretary Tripodi extended her congratulations to Minister Hussein on the notable developments in Baghdad, as well as the successful conclusion of the recent Arab Summit.

She further highlighted the productive political and economic discussions held during her visit, reaffirming Italy’s interest in convening an Iraqi-Italian Economic Forum that would bring together business leaders from both countries to explore avenues for cooperation.

The two sides exchanged views on regional developments, noting a strong alignment in their perspectives on a number of key issues. They also expressed a shared sense of optimism regarding the ongoing developments.

Minister Hussein welcomed the outcomes of Undersecretary Tripodi’s meetings in Baghdad, emphasizing the steady progress in Iraqi-Italian relations and underscoring the mutual commitment to strengthening economic and trade ties between the two nations.
