Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Concludes Official Visit to Tehran and Affirms Iraq’s Support for Diplomatic Tracks

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein concluded an official visit to the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Monday, May 19, 2025. During the visit, he held high-level talks with senior officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

The visit included discussions on ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries in the areas of security, energy, and economy, as well as on regional and international issues of mutual concern, most notably the negotiations between Tehran and Washington. The Minister reiterated Iraq’s support for diplomatic efforts aimed at reaching an agreement that would lift sanctions and achieve sustainable stability in the region.

Additionally, the Minister also participated in the Tehran Dialogue Forum, organized by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, where he delivered a speech in which he affirmed Iraq’s commitment to dialogue as a strategic option for resolving conflicts. In addition, the Minister highlighted the security interdependence among the countries of the region and the importance of adopting inclusive political tracks that take into account the interests of the people and uphold national sovereignty.

During his participation in the forum, the Minister emphasized that the security of Iraq and Syria is interrelated, and underscored that development cannot be achieved without regional stability, calling for the activation of cooperation mechanisms between the countries of the region across various sectors.
