Iranian President Receives Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and Affirms Readiness to Enhance Cooperation with Iraq in All Fields

Tehran, May 19, 2025 – the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Masoud Pezeshkian, received Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein, at the Presidential Complex in Tehran.
During the meeting, Minister Hussein conveyed the greetings of the his excellency President of the Republic of Iraq Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, and the Prime Minister
his excellency Mr. Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani, to the Iranian President. The Minister affirmed Iraq’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Iran across various sectors.
On his part, President Pezeshkian commended the depth of the historical ties between the two countries, highlighting the long-standing familial and social bonds that have connected the peoples of Iraq and Iran for thousands of years. President Pezeshkian reiterated Iran’s aspiration to expand bilateral cooperation, particularly in the fields of economy and industry, noting the promising opportunities for partnership between Iranian and neighboring Iraqi provinces.
The two sides also discussed the ongoing negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States. Minister Hussein expressed Iraq’s support for this diplomatic track and expressed hope that the talks would achieve tangible outcomes and lead to an agreement that contributes to lifting the sanctions imposed on Iran.
Minister Hussein also reviewed the growing volume of trade exchange between the two countries, noting the development of economic relations and the increasing levels of cultural and tourism exchange. In addition the Minister emphasized the significance of the Development Road Project, adopted by the Iraqi government, not only for Iraq but for the broader region as well.
The meeting also addressed issues related to gas exports and electricity imports from Iran, along with the challenges facing these sectors. Minister Hussein underscored that sustainable development cannot be achieved without comprehensive regional stability.
On his part, President Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s readiness to share its scientific achievements with Islamic nations, stating, “The prosperity of Iraq is the prosperity of Iran,” underlining the strong interconnection between the security and stability of both countries.
