Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Receives Chairman of Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council at Baghdad Airport Ahead of Arab and Development Summits

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein received His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Muhammad Al Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council of the Republic of Yemen, upon his arrival at Baghdad International Airport, on Saturday, May 17, 2025. President Al Alimi is visiting Iraq to participate in the 34th Ordinary Arab Summit and the 5th Arab Development Summit, both being hosted by Iraq. This reception reflects Iraq’s commitment to strengthening joint Arab action. Minister Hussein welcomed the Yemeni guest and emphasized Iraq’s keenness on Yemen’s participation in this significant regional event, highlighting the importance of unifying efforts to address current regional and international challenges.

On his part, His Excellency President Al Alimi extended his thanks and appreciation to Iraq for hosting the two summits, noting that choosing Baghdad as the venue underscores Iraq’s vital and pivotal role in the region. In addition he further stressed the importance of holding these summits in light of the exceptional circumstances and challenges facing the Arab world, and called for enhanced Arab solidarity to achieve security, stability, and development.

The meeting also touched on bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries, with both sides affirming the importance of deepening cooperation in political, economic, and security fields, in a manner that serves the interests of both nations and supports the broader path of Arab integration.

The reception ceremony was attended by Yemen’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Mr. Shaya Mohsin Zindani; Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning Mr. Mohammed Tamim; and the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers Dr. Hamid Al-Ghazi.

It is worth noting that the 34th Ordinary Arab Summit and the 5th Arab Development Summit are being held in Baghdad, with the participation of leaders and representatives from Arab states, to discuss ways to strengthen security, stability, and sustainable development across the region.
